OTHER Catholics ? Really ?
There ARE Catholics who don't answer to Rome. See an article discussing our origins in the excerpt from WIKIPEDIA below:
Old Catholic theology views the Eucharist as at the core of the Church. From that point the Church is a community of believers. All are in communion with one another around the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, as the highest expression of the love of God. Therefore, the celebration of the Eucharist is understood as the experience of the Christ's triumph over sin. The defeat of sin consists in bringing together that which is divided.[5]
The Old Catholic Church believes in unity in diversity. As a result, more diversity of belief and practice is to be found among its churches than is characteristic of the Roman Catholic Church or the Eastern Orthodox churches. Old Catholics often refer to the Church Father St. Vincent of Lerins and his saying: "We must hold fast to that faith which has been believed everywhere, always, and by all the Faithful."[6] * Mini questions * How does MARY fit in to the picture? 2nd mini-question: Isn't Jesus enough? And.... # 3 What makes mass any different from listening to a preacher? Hipster question: What's up with the rosary ?
Due to a strong relationship with Anglicans (Episcopalians) in Europe, it is not uncommon for Old Catholics to share their facilities with Anglicans in some European towns and cities. We are the great-great-grandchildren of this Old Catholic heritage, along with that of the Liberal Catholic Church (U.K.) and seek unity through the Eucharist of all Christian people. We are not, however part of the Union of Ultrecht, although we are welcome in their churches as they are in ours. We are Celtic Catholics, they remain Old Catholic. Our bishops possess Apostolic succession lines both East & West - not only through St. Peter, but from St. Thomas and other apostles. |

Some other interesting facts:
Our priests can marry or remain single, women are welcome to enter religious vocations as sisters and deaconesses, and GLBT folk are totally welcomed and included in every aspect of our community. The Order of St. Benedict of the Adoration is a Benedictine order of brothers, with slight adjustments made for urban and solitary ministries. Most of our clergy members are OSBA brothers. No one has to "quietly sit in the corner" , and watch, but that's ok, too. There is nothing wrong with being curious! Sometimes curiosity moves us into new ways of being...

Two questions: Why so many rules & rituals ? Isn't reading the Bible and being "spiritual" enough ?
Hipster question: Aren't driving a Prius and installing solar panels good enough for me to get into heaven?
